UDS plans to create a single ship repair unit
“Fleet Maintenance Base” of UDS will be part of the single ship repair division of the enterprise as part of the Kilia Shipbuilding and Ship Repair Plant.
“In our opinion, given the growing number and volume of tasks, the optimal solution is to combine all ship repair divisions of the Ukrainian Danube Shipping into a single structure. The joining of Fleet Maintenance Base with Kilia Shipbuilding and Ship Repair Plant will allow to unify the document flow, to achieve a more planned and coordinated work of ship repairmen,” said the acting director. general director of UDS Dmytro Moskalenko.
This year, Fleet Maintenance Base performed 132 between-flight repairs of the self-propelled fleet and 109 of the non-self-propelled fleet. The non-self-propelled fleet is mainly metalwork and welding work, diagnostics and measurements of hull thicknesses for submission to the Ukrainian Shipping Register. 566 orders were implemented for the self-propelled fleet: locksmith, welding, carpentry work, repair of electrical automation, installation of air conditioners and other equipment.
One of the problems is that a significant part of the work is urgent. The fleet is old, so there is a constant need for unplanned repairs. Spare parts for ship mechanisms are no longer produced, they have to be searched for and purchased for each ship separately. That is why the UDS proposes to merge Fleet Maintenance Base with Kilia Shipbuilding and Ship Repair Plant.
