More than 300 foreign seamen are “stuck” in Ukrainian ports
Since the beginning of the full-scale invasion of russia, 331 sailors from different countries of the world have remained in Ukrainian ports. Crews cannot leave their vessels and leave.
As of February 24, about 800-1,000 sailors from India, Syria, Egypt, Turkey, Bangladesh and the Philippines were in Ukrainian ports.
Some of the ships were able to leave Ukraine as part of the “grain initiative”. Some shipowners managed to evacuate their crews.
Currently, the number of stranded sailors is estimated at 331, Foreign Policy reports.
The International Chamber of Shipping (ICS) suggests that ships with foreign crews leave Ukraine through the “grain corridor”. However, it is doubtful that Russia will agree to such a decision.
