Great Britain has stopped all imports of russian LNG

From January 1, Great Britain stopped all imports of russian liquefied gas.

“Today, Great Britain has completely stopped importing russian liquefied natural gas. We are blocking putin’s way of financing his illegal war and supporting countries around the world to reduce their own dependency,” the British Foreign Office said in a statement on Twitter.

Britain will now import American LNG instead of russian. In December, US President Joe Biden and British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak signed an agreement to increase US LNG exports.

As part of the agreement, the US plans to export at least 9-10 billion cubic meters of LNG through British terminals in 2023.

In 2021, Great Britain imported 3.9 billion cubic meters of LNG from the United States — 26% of the country’s total imports of liquefied natural gas. From October 2021 to October 2022, Britain imported 9.7 billion cubic meters of American gas, which is 42% of the country’s total imports.
