The government adopted the regulation on the insurance of vessels of the “grain corridor”
Ukraine will guarantee compensation to ship owners and operators for risks caused by russian aggression.
Yesterday, February 24, people’s deputies approved changes to the state budget for this year. The updated document provides funding for the newly created Ministry of Reconstruction and the State Agency for Reconstruction. A compensation mechanism for vessel owners and operators for risks caused by russian aggression has also been adopted, according to the website of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine.
“Before the second reading, we made several important changes that were taken into account by the people’s deputies. One of them is a rule that provides insurance for vessels participating in the “grain corridor” in the amount of up to UAH 20 billion,” said Roksolana Pidlasa, head of the Parliamentary Budget Committee.
During the operation of the Grain Agreement, Ukraine exported about 16 million tons of agricultural products. The government is interested in preserving agricultural exports, because it is both income to the state budget and jobs for people.
“That is why I, together with the head of the “Servant of the People” faction, David Arakhamia, proposed introducing a rule stating that if russian federation begins to sabotage the Grain Agreement and creates risks of destruction of vessels operating under this agreement, the Government of Ukraine will guarantee material compensation to the owners and to the operators of such vessels,” the message reads.
