A russian ship with a cargo of an oligarch was detained in the port of Finland
Smew dry cargo was detained in the Finnish port of Kotka. Fertilizers of the company of a sanctioned russian oligarch were transported on the ship.
Smew is currently outside the Finnish port of Kotka. The dry truck was supposed to load fertilizers produced by a company owned by a russian oligarch on the EU sanctions list, writes the Finnish publication Yle.
According to unconfirmed information, the volume of the stopped cargo is 20 thousand tons, and its value on the world market at current prices may be about €10-12 million.
According to Pia Sarivaara, the head of the sanctions group at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Finland, the vessel is currently awaiting a decision on whether the temporarily detained cargo can be allowed to leave the country.
“We discovered that there was fertilizer on board, which probably belonged to a person on the EU sanctions list. According to EU rules, assets should be frozen if discovered,” commented Pia Sarivaara.
It is likely that the cargo will continue its journey after customs clearance. It can be skipped if it is going to a third country and needs to ensure food production.
