Drone attacks deter russian fleet operations

British intelligence has assessed the results of the latest drone attack on russia’s Black Sea Fleet in Sevastopol.

The russian fleet was probably not harmed by the drone attacks on March 22. At the same time, the threat of attacks restrains fleet operations, reports the Ministry of Defense of Great Britain with reference to its own intelligence.

In the latest attack, at least three unmanned surface ships and one unmanned aerial vehicle attempted to strike the russian naval base of Sevastopol in temporarily occupied Crimea.

“Reports from open sources indicate that one drone was stopped by security barriers. Two more were destroyed in the harbor. Russian officials also stated that no russian vessel was injured,” the report says.

During the previous drone attack on Sevastopol on October 29, 2022, the minesweeper “Ivan Golubets” and the frigate “Admiral Makarov” were damaged.

“Despite the fact that the new attacks probably did not damage military assets, the threat of drones is likely to continue to constrain the operations of russia’s Black Sea Fleet,” the ministry concluded.
