The court finally acquitted ex-Minister of Infrastructure Omelyan

The Supreme Court and the High Anti-Corruption Court finally acquitted former Minister of Infrastructure Volodymyr Omelyan.

Today, March 28, the court finally acquitted former Minister of Infrastructure Volodymyr Omelyan. This became known during the verdict announcement in the High Anti-Corruption Court.

“Regarding my case: the decision is final, it is not subject to review, I have been fully acquitted by both instances of the Supreme Court of Appeals and the Supreme Court,” Volodymyr Omelyan wrote on his Facebook page.

It will be recalled that the exhibitor was accused of reducing port fees by 20% in 2017. According to the investigation, the decision resulted in losses to the state of UAH 30.4 million. revenues to the state budget. 

In June 2020, NABU notified Omelyan of suspicion in the case of underpayment of UAH 30.5 million to the budget due to “illegal actions” of the politician.

Already in November 2020, the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office sent an indictment against Omelyan to the State Criminal Investigation Department.

For his part, Omelyan explained that the Ministry of Infrastructure reduced port fees because it was implementing the government’s decision. In addition, as a result of the reform, the commodity cargo flow increased and the financial indicators of the maritime industry began to grow.

The higher anti-corruption court acquitted Omelyan in October 2021. Now the decision of the court was confirmed in the Supreme Court.

The ex-minister expressed hope that NABU will conduct an independent audit of his case. The politician also called on NABU, which investigated the case against him, to publicly apologize.

NABU has not commented on the case so far.
