A corvette with stealth technology was launched in the Russian Far East

The pace of Russian shipbuilding is lagging behind plans. The corvette was laid down in August 2021, and it should enter service within the next few years.

The Amur Shipbuilding Plant in Komsomolsk-on-Amur launched the multi-purpose corvette Grozny of project 20380. This is the fifth ship of this type that the company is building for the Russian Pacific Fleet, Defense Blog reports.

The ceremony took place on October 24, more than five years after the ship was laid down on August 23, 2021. The corvette was taken out of the shop and launched using the Amurets floating dock, after which it was transferred to the berth for completion.

Kremlin officials did not name a specific date for commissioning, only noting that the ship should enter the fleet within the next few years. The crew has allegedly already been formed, and training began on October 5.

Project 20380, known in the West as the Steregushchy class, was developed by the Almaz Central Marine Design Bureau. It was the first major class of surface combat ships created in the Russian Federation after the collapse of the USSR. Stealth technologies are used during construction to reduce radar signature.

The standard configuration provides for a full displacement of about 2,200 tons and a length of about 104 meters. Armament includes a 100-millimeter gun, Redut anti-aircraft missiles, Uran anti-ship missiles, close-in defenses and anti-submarine torpedoes. The ship carries a helicopter. The specific configuration of the Grozny has not been disclosed.

Four corvettes of this project are currently serving in the Russian Pacific Fleet, all built at the Amur Plant: Sovershenny, Gromky, Aldar Tsydenzhapov and Rezky.

However, the pace of construction is lagging behind plans. In December 2020, it was announced that the Amur Shipyard would build six new corvettes for the Pacific Fleet, with commissioning between 2024 and 2028.

As USM reported, on June 3, 2026, Ukrainian drones hit the corvette “Boykiy”, which was in the Veleshchinsky dry dock in Kronstadt.
