A fire broke out in the Odesa port as a result of one of the most massive attacks by the Russian Federation on the Odesa region

The massive shelling on December 13 caused a fire in the grain silos of the Odesa seaport and damage to critical logistics facilities.

On the night of December 13, the Russian invaders carried out a series of combined strikes on five regions of Ukraine. The main focus is on the Odesa region: port and energy facilities are under the sights, said Deputy Prime Minister for the Reconstruction of Ukraine Oleksiy Kuleba.

As a result of the repeated attacks, the infrastructure of the Odesa seaport was damaged, where a fire broke out in the grain silos. Specialized services are working on site and eliminating the consequences. This is the second hit on this facility in a day.

The massive repeated shelling caused extensive damage to the energy infrastructure in the region. Part of Odesa was left without electricity, water and heat supply; reserve power sources have been activated at social facilities, water and fuel reserves have been formed, and emergency restoration work is underway.

In parallel, damage to energy facilities was recorded in Chernihiv, Kirovohrad, Kherson and Mykolaiv regions. In Kherson, more than 140 thousand subscribers were left without electricity, and several districts in Mykolaiv region were without electricity. Backup sources are used to maintain heat and water supply, and energy teams are working around the clock.

Kuleba emphasizes that these attacks are aimed at undermining maritime logistics and merchant shipping, which ensures the export of food and cargo to world markets.

“The enemy is once again trying to leave communities without electricity and heat, to destroy our maritime logistics, destroying ports. Despite this, we are doing everything to return critical infrastructure to operation as quickly as possible,” the minister emphasized.

The day before, on the evening of December 12, the Russians struck the port infrastructure of Odesa and Chornomorsk. As a result of the attack, a fire broke out on a ferry under the Turkish flag.
