A free trade zone can appear between Ukraine and Turkey in February
The countries are considering signing the long-awaited Turkish-Ukrainian free trade agreement.
The reason for signing can be the meeting of the Presidents of Ukraine and Turkey within the framework of the February meeting of the Strategic Council. This was announced by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Dmytro Kuleba, writes Interfax-Ukraine.
“Next year, Ukraine and Turkey will celebrate the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries. On this occasion, we are planning to hold the next meeting of the Strategic Council between Ukraine and Turkey under the co-chairmanship of both Presidents,” writes Kuleba in an article for the Atlantic Council.
According to the Foreign Minister, a number of agreements and documents are being prepared for the Strategic Council next year. Both parties concern the February 2022 meeting as an opportunity to sign a Turkish-Ukrainian free trade agreement after years of negotiations.
“This agreement will significantly strengthen the already strong trade ties between the two Black Sea countries and will facilitate the establishment of new business ties,” Kuleba said.
The Minister also noted that, in conditions of stable growth of bilateral trade, Ukraine also plans to carry out a joint intergovernmental trade and economic commission with Turkey.
