A gas tanker bound for Russia ran aground near Egypt
The Egyptian government detained the gas carrier Claudia Gas, which was on its way to the Russian Federation. Earlier, the ship ran aground in the ecologically sensitive area of the Gulf of Aqaba.
Marine services were able to raise the ship from the ground and move it to an anchorage near Safaga, Egypt, in the Red Sea, MarineTraffic writes.
The Claudia Gas had completed unloading at the Jordanian port of Aqaba and was reportedly en route to Russia when it ran aground on Friday, April 12. The vessel was in ballast at the time of the accident.
Currently, Egyptian media reports that the vessel could be fined tens of millions of dollars depending on the level of damage caused to the marine reserve.

It is also worth noting that Claudia Gas, which has been under the management of the Greek company Zeus Lines since 2020, passed an inspection in February 2024 in Aqaba. The inspection report indicated malfunctioning gauges, but the vessel was not detained for repairs.
