A member of an illegal formation will be tried for the assault on the corvette “Khmelnytskyi” and the seizure of the headquarters of the Ukrainian Navy

The Prosecutor’s Office of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea and the city of Sevastopol sent an indictment to the court against a fighter of the “DND “Rubizh””, who helped the Russian army occupy the Crimean peninsula.
This was reported by the Prosecutor’s Office of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea and the city of Sevastopol.
The suspect was charged with participation in the activities of an armed formation not provided for by law and in an attack on institutions (Part 4 of Article 260 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine), encroachment on the territorial integrity and inviolability of Ukraine (Part 2 of Article 110 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine) and high treason (Part 1 of Article 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
The investigation established that in February 2014, a resident of Sevastopol joined the ranks of the “Voluntary People’s Brigade “Rubizh”” – an illegal armed formation that operated during the active phase of the occupation of Crimea.
Together with other “fighters”, the accused, carrying a firearm, participated in a violent assault on the Headquarters of the Naval Forces Command of Ukraine.
The man also blocked access to the Ukrainian Navy ship “Khmelnytskyi”, controlled the actions of its crew members, as a result of which the corvette was captured by the Russian military.
In addition, his duties included duty at checkpoints, checking citizens’ documents, searching vehicles moving towards Sevastopol, etc.
For his “merits” to the occupiers, the accused was awarded awards and badges.
For the above actions, he faces up to 15 years in prison. A special pre-trial investigation was carried out by the Main Directorate of the State Security Service of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea and the city of Sevastopol.
Earlier, USM reported that the participants in the assault on the Ukrainian Navy corvette “Khmelnytskyi” were informed of suspicion.
