A ship delivering weapons from Syria to the Russian Federation was spotted in a Turkish port

The Baltic Leader ship, which is part of the so-called “Syrian Express”, is in the port of Unye.

This was reported by the  “Crimean Wind” monitoring group.

Currently, the Baltic Leader is located near the Turkish port of Unye. A week ago, the ship turned on the transponder when moving from one berth to another.

The Lady Maria is probably also in this port.

“In February, these ships reached Sinop from the Bosphorus and disabled the AIS recognition system. They used Turkish waters as cover from an attack by Ukrainian naval drones,” experts of the monitoring group noted.

It is worth noting that by using merchant vessels, Russia bypasses the ban on the movement of warships through the Bosphorus and Dardanelles straits, introduced by Turkey since the beginning of the war in Ukraine, in accordance with the Montreux Convention.

We will remind, on February 26, 2022, France intercepted the Russian ship Baltic Leader in the English Channell, in accordance with EU sanctions against Moscow.

The vessel was suspected of “belonging to a Russian company that is currently on the EU sanctions list.”
