A ship heading from the Russian Federation caught fire near Shanghai
A feeder vessel caught fire near Shanghai. It was headed from the Russian port of Nakhodka.
A fire broke out on board the feeder container ship Zhong Gu Tai Shan off the coast of China. The fire broke out in the engine room, writes Container News.
It is reported that the container ship was on its way to Shanghai. Before that, the vessel was loaded in the Russian port of Nakhodka.
At the time of the incident, there were 22 crew members on board the container ship. Rescuers evacuated 14 sailors. The remaining eight remained on board until the fire was extinguished.
The Shanghai Maritime Rescue Coordination Center dispatched support vessels to tow the Zhong Gu Tai Shan to a “safer location”. The cause of the fire is currently being investigated.
Zhong Gu Tai Shan is a feeder container ship with a deadweight of 23,596 tons. The length of the ship is 164.18 meters, the width is 27.5 meters. The container ship was built back in 1990. The vessel flies the flag of Panama.
