In the Antarctic, the pointer to Kherson shows the distance to the liberated city — 14,900 km.

Ukrainian polar explorers installed a pointer to Kherson near the Akademik Vernadskyi station. Also next to it appeared the index of “Bucha” – another hero city of Ukraine, reports the National Antarctic Science Center.

The sign showing the distance to de-occupied Kherson is painted in the yellow-blue colors of the Ukrainian flag. It was placed on a special pole, where there are indicators of various settlements: from which polar explorers come from or which have a symbolic meaning for them. In particular, during the first voyage of the Ukrainian research vessel “Noosphere” to “Vernadsky”, the sailors of the icebreaker added the sign of their native Izmail.

In the near future, polar explorers plan to add the names of other cities that bravely resisted the Russian invasion, primarily Mariupol. In addition, some pointers will be updated. For example, Kirovohrad will be decommunized to Kropyvnytskyi, and Vinnytsia and Odesa will be transliterated into Ukrainian.
