A sailor from Ukraine fell overboard of a container ship in the Black Sea. The man was saved.
On the night of August 30, in the Black Sea off the coast of Kefken (Turkey), the senior mate fell overboard of the container ship MSC Nadriely, writes Fleetmon. It is reported that the sailor is originally from Ukraine.
When the crew noticed the absence of the starpom, the ship was turned back and the search began.
Turkish emergency personnel and coast guard fighters joined the search and rescue operation. Rescue boats and planes were deployed at the scene of the incident. Civilian vessels nearby were also involved in the search for the sailor.
The Ukrainian was rescued 20 hours after falling overboard. The man was pulled aboard the freighter Moonlight. The sailor was immediately taken to the hospital.
It is noted that such cases of survival after falling overboard and staying in the water for a long time are extremely rare.
