A unique case: the legislation will be changed to sell Medvedchuk’s yacht

In order to realize the arrested yacht of Viktor Medvedchuk, who is suspected of high treason, it is necessary to make changes to the legislation.

The Royal Romance yacht can be sold by the end of this year. The arrested ship belongs to Viktor Medvedchuk, a former deputy of parliament and Putin’s godfather, who is suspected of treason, said the so-called at. Dmytro Zhoravovych, head of ARMA, in an interview with UNN.

According to him, the case with the arrest of this yacht is exceptional. Since the process of realization of assets located abroad is not regulated by legislation, it is necessary to make certain changes to regulatory legal acts.

“The yacht was handed over to us for sale, but it is physically in one of the Croatian ports. This is a unique case that has no analogues either in Ukrainian or international practice. We immediately developed a road map for the management of this asset, and today we have already gone through a rather difficult path – from the recognition of the decision of the Ukrainian court by the Croatian side to the inspection of the vessel by our employees in Croatia”, Dmytro Zoravovych emphasized.

Currently, the biggest problem is the mechanism of selling the yacht, because it is possible to get the right amount for it only abroad. The sale should be organized at an international auction.

“However, our legislation does not provide for such a possibility. We have developed the necessary changes to the normative legal acts, at the moment we are waiting for the approval of some ministries. In the absence of additional obstacles, this process can be finalized by the end of the current year,” the head of ARMA believes.

At the same time, the previously announced price of the Royal Romance yacht of $200 million may change. The amount will be set after the evaluation of the foreign site, which will check the technical condition, availability of technical documentation, etc.

As previously reported by USM, the 93-meter yacht  Royal Romance was arrested at the port in the city of Rijeka, Croatia. The vessel requires annual costs of $15-20 million.
