Before the demining, the military allowed scientists to collect information about aquatic life that temporarily settled on the mines.
For the entire period from February 24, 2022 to the present, at least 18 mines have been thrown onto the shores of the national park, the Tuzlivski Limany National Nature Park page reported on Facebook.
Some of them were found by national park employees and informed the military. When the military prepares a mine for demining, before its detonation, they sometimes allow us to collect scientific information on mollusks and other aquatic life that temporarily settled on it,” the national park said.
One such mine is home to a thousand aquatic life, including mussels (mytilus edulis), elongated mussels (mytilaster lineatus), and barnacles, also known as sea acorns (balanus, from the Latin balanus – “acorn”).

In particular, the national park noted that many people relax in the recreational areas “Raseika”, “Katranka”, “Lebedivka” and swim in the sea, the water area of the national park, where mines are often found. These areas are not officially open for swimming.
As previously reported by USM, in June 2025, Ukraine first presented its developments at the underwater demining forum in Germany. The delegation also recalled the need to demine water areas.
