Agrarian associations appealed to Zelenskyy not to liquidate the Ministry of Agrarian Policy

Agrarian associations have sent an appeal to President Zelenskyy asking not to liquidate the Ministry of Agrarian Policy.

This is stated in the letter of the associations, Latifundist reports.

More than 30 leading agrarian associations of Ukraine have appealed to Volodymyr Zelenskyy with a request to prevent the liquidation of the Ministry of Agrarian Policy.

The organizations expressed concern about the possible merger of the Ministry of Agrarian Policy with the Ministry of Economy and the Ministry of Environment into the Ministry of Resources. They consider this initiative threatening for the agricultural sector.

The appeal emphasizes that the agricultural sector generates 15% of GDP, provides about 60% of foreign exchange earnings from exports and remains a key source of budget funding and support for the army. Last year, enterprises in the sector paid more than UAH 260 billion to the budgets.

According to the associations, the liquidation of the relevant ministry will weaken the sector and slow down the adaptation of legislation to EU requirements.

“We are convinced that such a step will have negative consequences — as it already did in 2019 after the Ministry of Agrarian Policy merged with the Ministry of Economy,” the report says.

The document was signed by the heads of the All-Ukrainian Agrarian Council, the Ukrainian Agricultural Council, the Ukrainian Agricultural Council, the Farmers’ Association, Ukrtsukr, Ukroliyaprom, the Union of Dairy Enterprises, the Bakers’ Association, the Meat Industry Association, Ukrsadprom, the Ukrainian Berry Growers’ Association, and others.

Earlier, USM reported that the Ministry of Agrarian Policy could be merged with the Ministry of Economy and the Ministry of Environment. According to the preliminary configuration, the new ministry will be headed by Svyrydenko’s deputy, Oleksiy Sobolev. The final decision has not yet been made.
