American generals are discussing the strategy for the return of Crimea
The issue of the return of Crimea under the control of Ukraine is becoming more and more urgent against the background of the successes of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
The main challenges in the return of Crimea are related to the fact that Ukraine has a very limited naval presence. At the CEPA 2022 forum, which took place on September 27, this issue was discussed by the US generals.
According to retired Lieutenant General Mark Gertling, the operation to return the peninsula will be difficult for the Ukrainian military.
“When russia annexed Crimea, it relied on its marines and special forces to go in and take it. Ukrainian forces have a very limited naval presence, so they will need “long-range fire” to succeed. And even then, you can’t take land with artillery alone. This requires people on the ground,” Mark Gertling added.
In turn, General Ben Hodges emphasized the importance of support and military-technical support from the Allies.
“As soon as the Ukrainians are able to place HIMARS or other missile launchers in range, they will begin to strike russian bases in Crimea,” summarized Ben Hodges. Earlier, USM reported that Ukraine’s new weaponry forced the russians to increase security at the Crimean bridge.
