An Association of Maritime Municipalities will be created in Ukraine

Ukraine has begun the creation of the Association of Maritime Municipalities, an initiative that should unite communities on the Black Sea coast for joint development.

This was reported by the Lymansky News Agency.

The idea of forming a joint platform for communication and project cooperation appeared back in September, during the Ukrainian-Polish business forum. Then, representatives of local governments, the maritime industry, and investment agencies of Ukraine and Poland came to the conclusion that coastal communities need a single voice. In October, during the Baltic Expo, the concept was finally supported, and the Ukrainian delegation held a number of meetings with Polish municipalities.

“The implementation of such large projects as the greening of the Black Sea, strengthening the coastline, developing infrastructure, supporting children, youth, and the elderly requires the consolidation of efforts and the creation of an association,” explains Kristina Korotkykh, director of the CU “Agency for Sustainable Development of the Vyzyrska Community”.

The Vyzyrska and Koblivska communities, the Odesa City Council, the Chulakivska STG and Skadovsk have already joined the initiative.

The Polish side, according to Korotky, has shown particular interest in the experience of Ukrainian communities that continue to function in wartime. The partners are studying how local authorities adapted in the first days of a full-scale invasion – from organizing shelters to ensuring the autonomy of public utilities.

Both Poland and Ukraine are united by a common interest – the development of coastal regions, environmental safety, tourism and job creation. In the future, it is planned to form a team, prepare projects to attract funding from European funds and develop a network of cooperation between communities of the two countries.

Earlier, USM reported that additional mobile shelters were installed in the port of Chornomorsk.
