An inspector of Odesa Customs was detained for bribery

The SBU detained the Odesa customs inspector for systematic bribery. He organized a corruption scheme on the passage of containers.

The chief state inspector of one of the anti-smuggling and violation of customs regulations departments of the Odesa Customs Service was arrested for bribery, the SBU reports.

The official organized a corruption scheme during the customs clearance of imported goods.

“For a fixed amount of money, he ensured the unimpeded passage of containers through the customs border. In January 2023, he demanded and received a bribe for the smooth customs clearance of a container with lanterns,” the SBU said.

The figure was detained while receiving another bribe. Other customs officials are currently being checked.
