An official of the State Service of Ukraine for Transport Safety extorted money from grain traders in Odesa region
An official of State Service of Ukraine for Transport Safety, exposed by the State Bureau of Investigation for extortion from grain traders, will be tried in Odesa region.
Law enforcement officers have completed a pre-trial investigation into an official of State Service of Ukraine for Transport Safety who, for a bribe, allowed trucks with grain that did not meet the dimensions and weight standards to pass, the ДБР.SBI reported.
The indictment was sent to the court.
The figure put on the flow of earnings at the weighing complexes of State Service of Ukraine for Transport Safety at all the main transport junctions of Odesa region.
He charged the carriers 1,000 hryvnias for the unimpeded passage of a truck with an exceeded permissible weight. Money was paid by almost all grain traders who transported products to the ports of Odesa region. State Investigation Bureau employees have documented at least several dozen such episodes.
In January 2024, the law enforcement officers arrested the dealer “red handed”. He is accused of obtaining an illegal benefit by an official (Part 1, Part 3 of Article 368 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine). The sanction of the article provides for punishment in the form of deprivation of liberty for a term of up to 10 years.
The man was suspended from his post. Also, the court chose a preventive measure for him in the form of detention with the alternative of posting bail.
USM previously reported that the Security Service reported the suspicion to Russian generals, who ordered the “grain corridor” to be mined.
