An oil pipeline from Ukraine to the port of Gdansk will cost hundreds of millions of dollars

The amount for the construction of an oil pipeline depends on the route and the landscape.

Poland should allocate a site for the oil pipeline construction project. The route will run to the port of Gdansk, recalled the Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine Mykola Solskyi in an interview with Business Censor.

According to him, the price of the project can only be given conditionally, since everything depends on the route and landscape.

“In any case, it is about hundreds of millions of dollars. For comparison, now one plant processing 1 million tons of sunflower can cost $100-200 million,” Mykola Solsky emphasized.

Construction could take about a year if Poland gets all the permits. At the same time, Poland has already allocated funds for obtaining permits from a special international organization.

In addition, according to the project plan, there may be a discharge of oil at the Jagodyn inlet points for unloading in the port of Gdańsk. The pipeline works according to the technological principle of liquid pumping, a compressor station with an interval of 20-30 km. This is an economically profitable project, since the huge place of purchase of oil is the ports of the Netherlands.

“The pipe should be owned by Ukraine and Poland. Private players can also come in and build terminals. The main task is to get oil of the same quality into the pipe. This is a normal requirement, because oil is a standardized product, like, for example, oil,” explained the Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine.

The agricultural trade union opposes the project and calls for the export of Polish rapeseed instead of Ukrainian oil.

As previously reported by USM, in September 2022, Ukraine and Poland officially agreed to build a cross-border pipeline for the export of Ukrainian oil.
