Analysts: Shipowners refuse to reduce freight rates ahead of holidays

This week, freight rates for grain transportation across Ukraine remain stable.

This was reported by ASAP Agri analyst and Atria Brokers freight broker Pavlo Lysenko.

According to him, despite the limited flow of cargo from Ukraine and a small number of new orders, shipowners are resolutely refusing to further reduce rates.

“Their current revenues in some cases do not even cover operating costs, particularly in the bunker segment,” the expert noted.

According to the freight department of Atria Brokers, rates for Panamaxes for the transportation of corn or wheat from the deep-water ports of Odessa to southern China remain stable at 39-40 USD/t.

For hand-sizes transporting corn from the deep-water ports of Odesa to the east coast of Italy, rates remain stable at 17-18 USD/t.

Meanwhile, rates for barges for the transportation of corn from Ukrainian Danube ports to the eastern coast of Italy have decreased by 1 USD/t, reaching 27-29 USD/t.

The freight for the transportation of corn by barge from Reni or Izmail to Constanta remains at 9 EUR/t.

As previously reported by USM, Ukraine plans to reach about 77 million tons in agricultural exports by the end of this year.
