Ancient bronze icons were planned to be taken from Ukraine by ferry

Border guards discovered a car in which a man was trying to take out ancient icons at the “Orlivka” ferry crossing point.

Four icons were discovered at the “Orlivka” ferry checkpoint during an inspection of a Toyota car, the State Border Guard Service reports.

The driver, a citizen of Ukraine, chose the “green corridor” lane to avoid a more thorough inspection of the car, but it did not work.

In the end, as a result of the inspection, border guards discovered church artifacts in a backpack in the back seat. The 53-year-old man tried to assure the inspection team that the items were of no value, because he had bought them literally for next to nothing on one of the online shopping sites.

Currently, the driver has been issued a protocol under Art. 483 of the ICU “Movement or actions aimed at moving goods across the customs border of Ukraine with concealment from customs control.” The items were taken for examination, their fate will be decided by the court.

Earlier, USM reported that a batch of Russian-made auto parts was transported to Ukraine by ferry.
