As a result of the terrorist attack at the Kakhovska HPP, almost 150 Red Book newts died

Newts, which are listed in the Red Book of Ukraine, were washed away with the Dnipro waters to the coast of the Black Sea.

Employees of the “Tuzlivski lymany” NPP saved 55 newts in a day. Another 149 animals were found dead, the Ministry of Environment reported.

Red book newts were brought to the coast of the Black Sea with the Dnipro waters. Park workers found them there.

Newts do not live in salt water, so live animals were taken to the Danube Biosphere Reserve, where they were released in different sections of the river (tributaries).

The animals made the journey successfully. According to experts, they should adapt well in the Danube waters.

Conservationists continue to deal with the aftermath of the explosion of the Kakhovska HPP — the biggest environmental disaster Russia has caused since the start of its full-scale invasion of Ukraine. Work on documenting and calculating the damage caused to the environment due to the Russian terrorist attack on the Kakhovska HPP is ongoing.

Previously, USM reported that due to the terrorist attack by the Russians at the Kakhovska HPP in the Black Sea, dangerous objects and pathogens of infectious diseases continue to be discovered. Water in the sea does not meet sanitary, hygienic and epidemiological standards. There is also a temporary ban on visiting beaches and swimming.
