At the G20 summit, Erdogan called for meeting Russia’s demands in exchange for the renewal of the Grain Agreement
During the G20 summit in India, the President of Turkey called on Russia to make concessions in order to restore the Grain Agreement.
Recep Tayyip Erdogan called on several G20 leaders to meet a number of conditions from Russia to try to restore the Grain Agreement, Bloomberg reports.
According to the publication’s informants, Erdogan is calling on world leaders to help insure Russian food and fertilizer exports with Lloyd’s of London and restore Moscow’s connection to the SWIFT system.
The United States and its allies reject Russian claims that Western sanctions are stifling agricultural exports from Moscow and have so far resisted calls to ease restrictions.
Several European diplomats said that the Russian Federation rejected a compromise proposed by the UN – to create a subsidiary of the state bank Rosselkhozbank, which was under sanctions, and allow it to use SWIFT. According to the officials, Turkey often mentions the situation with the “grain” negotiations during the meetings and tries to find a consensus regarding the renewal of the agreement.
Later on September 9, published Reuters published the main points of the declaration agreed by the G20 leaders on the first day of the summit.
In particular, the countries called on “Russia and Ukraine” to ensure immediate and unimpeded supplies of grain, food products and fertilizers from the Russian Federation and Ukraine.
