Attack on Ukrainian Navy corvette: four Ukrainian traitors reported for suspicion

The members of the Voluntary People’s Brigade “Rubizh”, who took part in the seizure of the Naval Headquarters of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in Sevastopol, were informed of the suspicion.

As the Prosecutor’s Office of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea and the city of Sevastopol notes, the suspects are citizens of Ukraine who in February 2014 joined the illegal armed formation “VPB “Rubizh”.

According to the investigation, during the active phase of the occupation of the Crimean peninsula, the suspects participated in the blockade and seizure of military facilities in Sevastopol, were on duty at checkpoints set up in the city, checked citizens’ documents, searched vehicles, etc.

“The suspects, together with other “fighters”, carrying firearms, participated in the forcible seizure of the Naval Command Headquarters of Ukraine and assisted the Russians in the assault on the Ukrainian Navy corvette “Khmelnytskyi”, – the prosecutor’s office said.

They also received awards from the occupiers – badges “For the Return of Crimea”, “For the 3rd Defense of Sevastopol”, etc.

It should be noted that their actions were qualified as participation in the activities of an armed formation not provided for by law, an attack on institutions (Part 4 of Article 260 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine), an attack on the territorial integrity and inviolability of Ukraine (Part 2 of Article 110 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine) and high treason (Part 1 of Article 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine). They face up to 15 years in prison.

As previously reported by USM, Russia is disposing of all captured Ukrainian ships in Crimea.

Reference. “Khmelnytskyi” (U208) is a small anti-submarine ship, later a corvette of the Ukrainian Navy. The ship was launched on January 26, 1985.

In March 2014, the corvette was captured by Russian invaders.
