Australia is preparing a rally against the import of fuel from Russian oil

Activists demand closure of legislative loophole that allows import of fuel made from Russian raw materials.

On Sunday, July 17, a protest against the import of fuel made from Russian oil will be held in the Sydney suburb of Curnell. Ukrinform reports.

Organizers are calling on the Australian authorities to close a legislative loophole that allows the import of fuel processed from Russian raw materials, and are demanding that retailers clean up their supply chains.

According to the Center for Research on Energy and Clean Air (CREA), since the beginning of 2023, Australia has imported more than 3.8 billion Australian dollars of such products, which has brought Russia about 2 billion Australian dollars in export taxes. Organizers emphasize that these funds directly or indirectly finance the war against Ukraine.

In July, after the arrival of a refined oil tanker containing Russian crude oil in Port Botany, a similar action was already taking place near the Kurnell terminal, calling for an end to the financing of the Kremlin’s aggression.

As USM wrote, Australia had previously banned the “shadow fleet” vessels from entering its ports for the first time.
