Bangladesh will receive compensation for the ship abandoned in Ukraine
The State Shipping Corporation of Bangladesh will receive compensation for the bulk carrier that came under fire in Ukraine.
The bulk carrier Banglar Samriddhi arrived in Ukraine on February 22 last year on the charter of Delta Corporation. Two days later, Russia invaded Ukraine and all ports were closed, and the Banglar Samriddhi was one of the many ships left in the war zone.
On March 2, a russian missile hit the bulk carrier during its stay in the Olvia port. As a result of the terrorist attack, the sailor was killed, and the ship was seriously damaged. Rescuers managed to evacuate 28 crew members.
Now the state-owned company Bangladesh Sg Corp will receive $22.48 million in compensation from insurers for the bulk carrier, which remained blocked in the war zone for almost a year, Splash reports.
The vessel was insured through Dhaka-based Sadharan Bima Corporation and reinsured through broker Lloyd’s of London Tysers.
