The Bahri Diriyah vessel arrived in the port of Gdansk (Poland) with an unusual cargo – blades for wind turbines in Ukraine.

The vessel delivered 15 blades to Gdansk for Ukraine, Gospodarka Morska reports.

The Bahri Diriyah called at the port of Gdansk on April 1. The 194-meter vessel under the Saudi Arabian flag delivered 15 giant windmill blades from India. It moored near the Westerplatte Defenders Embankment.

Each of the blades that the vessel delivered to Gdansk is 78.6 meters long and weighs 34 tons. Although the Westerplatte Defenders Embankment in the port of Gdansk is more associated with servicing cruise ships or ferries, it was there that the blades were reloaded – they were removed from the ship one by one using ship cranes.

Some of them were loaded onto special semi-trailers, some were unloaded at the site. This embankment has the easiest access to the road network, which allows for further transportation of cargo by road – all the way to Ukraine itself, where they will strengthen one of the wind energy projects.

The entire procedure for servicing the vessel and unloading the blades and additional elements lasted two days.

The transshipment operation was coordinated by the BLG company from Gdansk. Representatives of the company emphasize that the implementation of this transshipment operation was an interesting challenge – this is the first time that such long blades have been transshipped in Gdansk. The blades are transported by road by Liburnia.

USM previously reported that the United States will be able to ship LNG to Ukraine through the port of Gdansk.
