Blinken: The US is considering opportunities for exporting Ukrainian grain
The US hopes to restore the Black Sea Grain Initiative to avoid a global food crisis.
The USA is considering all possibilities to maximize the export of grain from Ukraine, in particular, by land, river and partly by sea. However, it will be very difficult to compensate for the volumes shipped under the Black Sea Grain Agreement. The situation is complicated by the fact that Russia deliberately attacks grain warehouses and port infrastructure. This was stated by US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken, Ukrinform reports.
The government official emphasized that the international community is interested in providing the world market with food, so the restoration of the Black Sea Grain Initiative is one of the tools that make food available and its prices low.
“We want to see this food on world markets. We want everyone to benefit from lower prices,” said Blinken.
The State Secretary criticized the Kremlin’s position on withdrawing from the Grain Agreement and refuted Russia’s claims that the sanctions allegedly hindered the export of its own agricultural products.
“The sanctions imposed against Russia for its aggression in Ukraine excluded food products from day one. And this applies not only to the products, but also to the means of their delivery and insurance. The United States is interested in every country in the world being able to export food freely and safely,” said Blinken.
