Britain imposes sanctions on 30 Russian shadow tankers
Russian tankers that have been hit by new British sanctions have transported billions of pounds worth of oil and petroleum products over the past year.
The British government has imposed new sanctions on 30 vessels of Russia’s so-called shadow fleet. Ukrinform reports.
It is noted that this is the largest package of sanctions aimed at restricting the activities of the Russian Federation’s fleet. The sanctions also hit insurance companies that provided for the operation of these vessels.
According to the government, half of the tankers in question transported oil and fuel, including gasoline, worth more than $4.3 billion in just one year.
The restrictions introduced are aimed at further complicating the Kremlin’s financing of the war in Ukraine. The total number of tankers hit by British sanctions now stands at 73.
USM recently wrote that the UK has uncovered a scheme to circumvent oil sanctions using forged certificates.
