Bulgaria and Romania will receive satellite images of sea areas where Russia attacked vessels

The European Union has called on Russia to stop attacks on commercial vessels in the Black Sea, and has also announced cooperation with Bulgaria and Romania in the wake of the latest attacks.

This was stated by European Commission spokesman Christian Wiegand on October 7 in Brussels, writes European Pravda.

Recall that on October 6, drones attacked two merchant ships in Bulgaria’s exclusive economic zone in the Black Sea, one of which sank. Before that, on October 5, drones hit a ship near the coast of Romania.

“The latest attacks on commercial vessels in the Black Sea, loaded with wheat, are completely unacceptable. The fact that Russia’s aggressive war against Ukraine is also being manifested in the Black Sea poses serious threats to maritime security and freedom of navigation,” said Christian Wiegand.

He called on Russia to stop all actions that endanger international shipping and the lives of seafarers, as well as to return to compliance with the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea.

In particular, the European Maritime Safety Agency offered its support to the Romanian and Bulgarian authorities, in line with its role in providing support at the European level in the field of maritime security and situational awareness.

“Both Romania and Bulgaria requested satellite imagery to enhance situational awareness following the attacks, and we are now providing these images,” a European Commission spokesperson said. As previously reported by USM, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that two civilian vessels in the Black Sea near Bulgaria were attacked by Russia using naval and aerial drones.
