Bulgaria canceled the “embargo” on grain from Ukraine
The Bulgarian government decided to cancel restrictions on the import of Ukrainian agricultural products into the country.
After September 15, 124 deputies voted for the resumption of Ukrainian grain imports, 69 voted against, and eight abstained. This was reported by the Bulgarian edition “News 24/7”.
The day before, the draft of the relevant decision was approved by the Committee on Economic Policy and Innovation.
The restriction concerned the import of wheat, corn, rapeseed and sunflower from Ukraine. The ban was intended to help local farmers produce more of their own produce.
Instead, according to data presented by Bulgarian Finance Minister Asen Vasilev, due to import restrictions, Bulgaria lost BGN 146 million in unpaid value added tax.
Also, the “embargo” on imports from Ukraine left Bulgaria without a sufficient amount of sunflower, and huge oil producers in the country at that time began to stop production due to a lack of raw materials.
