Bulgaria is arming its coast guard with missiles to protect its ports from Russia

Bulgaria has begun equipping its coast guard with missiles due to fears of possible Russian aggression in the Black Sea.

The Prime Minister of Bulgaria Nikolay Denkov spoke about the beginning of staffing of the coast guard, Novinite reports.

Denkov clarified: the goal is that “no one dares to approach” the Black Sea cities of Bulgaria.

The Prime Minister emphasized that Bulgaria should develop its naval forces so that they are sufficiently prepared to defend the country. The politician spoke about this against the background of tension in the Black Sea caused by Russian aggression in Ukraine.

“At the moment, we do not see a direct threat to Bulgarian ports, but force is answered with force. That’s why we started buying missiles for the coast guard, so that no one would dare to approach our Black Sea cities,” Denkov said and recalled the Russian missile attacks on the port of Varna in 1915, launched from the water.

According to him, the national interest of Bulgaria is that the front line and the aggressor in the person of Russia are as far as possible from the country’s borders. This also became the reason why Bulgaria supports Ukraine in every possible way.

“Russian politicians have repeatedly said that after Ukraine are the Baltic republics and Moldova. It is high time for the citizens of Bulgaria to open their eyes to the fact that there is an aggressor who wants to regain imperial influence,” Denkov summarized.
