Bulgaria plans to take back the port owned by Russian Lukoil

The Parliament of Bulgaria can return to the control of the port of Rosenets, which is under the concession of the Russian company “Lukoil”.

On the morning of July 19, the deputies submitted the relevant draft law to the country’s parliament. As Ukrinform writes, in October of last year, the interim government appointed by Bulgarian President Rumen Radev extended the Lukoil-Bulgaria concession for another 24 years without explanation.

“This morning we are making a proposal to return the control of the Bulgarian state over the port of Rosenets. Our proposal will end the port concession, which was extended by the interim government for 24 years without reason. We believe that control over this port is key for the Bulgarian state and, in principle, all key infrastructure should be under Bulgarian control. Especially the one located along the border,” said the head of one of the bloc’s parties, Kyryl Petkov.

He added that the Ministry of Transport told him that they can operate this port and that there will be no problems with its work.

“Instead of concession fees, there will be profit from the operation of the port, but fully under the control of Bulgaria. This step is also in line with the EU resolution on sanctions against Russia because of the war,” said Petkov.
