Canada imposes sanctions on 100 more vessels of Russia’s “shadow fleet”

The foreign ministry explained that this step should strengthen the fight against Russia’s attempts to circumvent international restrictions.
Canada has announced a new package of sanctions against the Russian “shadow fleet”, introducing restrictions on 100 more vessels. This was reported by the Canadian Foreign Ministry.
The Canadian government emphasizes that the new sanctions should reduce Russia’s ability to finance the war, while not causing “unnecessary harm to ordinary people”.
Canadian Foreign Minister Anita Anand said that Ottawa remains steadfast in supporting Ukraine’s sovereignty and is ready to continue to increase sanctions pressure in coordination with allies.
Recall that Canada previously imposed sanctions against 21 individuals, 53 institutions and 100 vessels of the “shadow fleet”, and also lowered the price ceiling for Russian oil from 47.6 to 44.1 dollars per barrel.
In total, more than 600 vessels of the Russian “shadow fleet” are already under Canadian sanctions. Meanwhile, Britain has allowed the military to detain vessels of the Russian “shadow fleet” in its waters.
