China has not started buying more Russian grain, despite the fact that this season the country may become the largest buyer of basic food products, and Russia – the largest exporter.

China is currently buying a lot of grain. At the same time, the total volume of imports increased by more than 60%, compared to last year, and amounted to about 6 million tons in the first four months of the year, according to Bloomberg.

Of this amount, Russia had very little — 30,000 tons.

Although Beijing announced last year that it would allow the import of grain from all parts of the Russian Federation, trade is currently hampered by a number of problems. Among them are phytosanitary rules and transport problems.

In trade between China and the Russian Federation, wheat is an exception. China’s purchases of energy resources and aluminum increased sharply due to sanctions that reduced the supply of Russian products to the West.

Russian Agriculture Minister Dmitry Patrushev believes the issue of future Russian wheat supplies will be on the agenda when government officials from the terrorist nation attend a business forum in China this week.
