Due to the war and logistical difficulties, Ukraine is losing its share in the Chinese sunflower oil market, while the Russian Federation and Kazakhstan are increasing it.
The main suppliers of sunflower oil to China remain Russia, Ukraine and Kazakhstan, but the distribution of shares between them has changed significantly. This is reported by APK-Inform.
As a result of Russian aggression and problems with logistics, Ukraine is losing positions, while the Russian Federation and Kazakhstan are increasing exports. If in 2022 China purchased 53% of sunflower oil from Ukraine, 36% from Russia and 6% from Kazakhstan, then in 2024 the shares changed. Over the past year, Russia occupied 65% of the Chinese market, Ukraine reduced supplies to 23%, and Kazakhstan increased its share to 11%. At the same time, Kazakhstan has prospects for further increasing exports to China.
The total volume of sunflower oil imports to China in 2024 amounted to 1.08 million tons, which is less than 1.5 million tons in 2023, but significantly more than the figure in 2022 (605 thousand tons).
The day before, USM wrote that Algeria purchased about 400 thousand tons of Black Sea wheat. The main suppliers of the new batch of grain will be Romania, Bulgaria and Ukraine.
