Chinese ship failed to deliver modules for Russian Arktik LNG-2

The Chinese vessel Wei Xiao Tian Tian Si failed to deliver two large modules intended for the third stage of the Arctic LNG-2 gas project.

Ten months after leaving the Chinese shipyard, the Wei Xiao Tian Shi returned to a Chinese port. This was influenced by sanctions imposed in the United States, gCaptain writes.

The Wei Xiao Tian Tian Si loaded the modules at the Wison shipyard in Zhoushan in late March 2024. From there, the vessel set off for the North Atlantic via South Africa, but in July it turned sharply near the Faroe Islands of Denmark and began to return to China.

At that time, Wison announced the termination of cooperation with Russia, which was later refuted by the resumption of deliveries of modules for the second line of the Arctic LNG-2 by the vessels Ocean 28 and Na Feng Zhi Xing in October 2024. Subsequently, in January 2025, the US imposed sanctions on the Wison shipyard for providing material assistance to the Arctic LNG 2 project, the material says.

It is known that these modules are now temporarily stored in China. The company Wison New Energies, which manufactured them, has not yet announced any specific plans for the further use of these modules or others remaining at the plant.
