Chinese tanker detained in Russian port

The Chinese tanker Sagar Violet, which regularly transports Russian oil, was detained in the port of Nakhodka.

This was reported by the head of the Monitoring Group of the Institute of Black Sea Strategic Studies, Andriy Klymenko.

According to him, the vessel has been under sanctions by the United Kingdom since December 17, 2024, and under sanctions by Canada since February 24, 2025.

The tanker Sagar Violet was detained because the Chinese shipowner had not paid the Russian crew for three months.

“The tanker is 20 years old. It is on the “black lists” of two international port control memoranda at once — Paris MOU and Tokyo MOU (i.e., in very poor technical condition),” Klymenko noted.
