Damage for $6 million: the burned down vessel of the State Fisheries Agency became the reason for the investigation of the State Bureau of Investigation
The burned down fishing vessel, which was owned by the state, became the object of investigation by the SBI. It turned out that due to the fault of the directorate of the State Fisheries Agency, it was not insured. This resulted in $6 million in damage.
Investigators of the State Bureau of Investigation (SBI) suspect an official of the State Fisheries Agency of Ukraine of negligence and causing damage to the state budget for $6 million.
A large-capacity fishing vessel that belonged to the state was owned by the State Fisheries Agency. In 2016, the vessel was handed over to a commercial organization for charter. Under the terms of the contract, the vessel was to be insured. This was reported by the press service of the SBI.
In 2019, a fishing vessel caught fire and sank in the waters of Mauritania. It turned out that the Head of the State Fisheries Agency did not fulfill the terms of the contract and did not insure the vessel. As a result, the state was unable to receive insurance compensation in the amount of $6 million.
The pre-trial investigation is ongoing. An official can be imprisoned for two to five years.
