Denmark calls for new sanctions against Russia: “shadow fleet”, banks and a complete rejection of oil

The Danish Prime Minister said that only tough economic pressure will force the Kremlin to sit down for real peace talks.

Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen called on Western countries to introduce a new tough package of sanctions against Russia. This was reported by the TV channel “We are Ukraine”.

In her opinion, the sanctions pressure should cover the “shadow fleet”, the financial system and energy dependence on Russia in order to force Moscow to “actually negotiate peace”.

“I think we should introduce tougher sanctions against Russia. This applies to the “shadow fleet” – we have recently added almost 200 additional ships, but there should be more – as well as Russian banks and the financial sector. We must put an end to any dependence on Russian energy, including oil, gas and nuclear energy,” Frederiksen said.

The Danish Prime Minister stressed that only comprehensive sanctions pressure will create the necessary conditions for a change in the Kremlin’s behavior: “I think all this will put pressure on Russia to sit down at the negotiating table and actually negotiate peace.”

Frederiksen recalled that Denmark’s ultimate goal is to achieve a just and lasting peace for Ukraine.

“Ukraine deserves peace. But peace must be comprehensive, just and lasting. And it must respect Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. I’m sorry to say it, but we have not yet seen any signs that Russia is ready for real commitments,” the Prime Minister emphasized.

She emphasized that the main thing now is to provide Ukraine with the strongest possible position, both on the battlefield and at the negotiating table.
