Denmark suspects Russian ship of launching drones flying over Copenhagen

At the time of the drones’ flight on September 22, a ship with a Russian crew was passing near Copenhagen Airport.

According to law enforcement, the drones arrived from different directions and were spotted at several points, TV2 reports, citing Danish police.

Police said that a “capable player” was behind the incident, who had the resources, intentions and technical capabilities to carry out such an operation.

According to the channel, the suspects are the Russian cargo ship Astrol 1, which was passing through the Øresund Strait, as well as the tanker Pushpa, which is under sanctions for transporting Russian oil.

At the time of the incident, the tanker was approximately 80 kilometers from the airport when the drones appeared at 8:30 p.m. The ship was under the supervision of a German naval ship, which escorted it for four hours and then allowed it to continue sailing.

Another vessel that has become the focus of the investigation is the cargo ship Oslo Carrier 3, which was passing just seven kilometers north of the airport at the time when the drones were recorded over the airport.

“It has no direct connection with Russia, but in December 2024 it became known that at least part of the crew consisted of Russian-speaking sailors. The owner of the vessel is the Norwegian company Bulkship Management AS, which, according to recruiting portals, has an office in Kaliningrad,” the report says.

It should be noted that, in particular, the Danish Armed Forces and the National Operations Headquarters, as well as partners from Sweden and Norway, were involved in the investigation.
