Dockers’ strike delays sending Finnish aid to Ukraine
Ukraine should receive help from Finland, but the dockers’ strike will delay this process.
Last week, the Finnish Ministry of the Interior announced aid to Ukraine. However, the cargo is delayed on the way due to a dockers’ strike organized by the AKT Transport Workers’ Union, writes Yle.
The dockers’ strike began on February 15 after the AKT trade union rejected a mediation offer to settle a labor dispute in the transport sector.
Negotiations on the dockers’ labor contract are to continue on Wednesday, February 22. The strike is indefinite.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs hopes to send aid to Ukraine this week, but the exact time of sending is unknown.
The aid cargo contains three fire engines, an ambulance and equipment for rescue operations.
