Due to the actions of the Russian Federation, the costs of the idling at the Port of Pivdennyi have already exceeded $50 million
The stevedores of the largest port of Ukraine, Pivdennyi, appealed to the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
A collective appeal was sent to the President on behalf of the 14 largest port operators. The text of the letter was published by “TIS”.
The companies noted that more than 10,000 people work in the collectives of signatory operators, and the activities of enterprises in the water area of the Pivdennyi seaport make it possible to generate more than 80% of all revenues for the local budgets of the OTG of the city of Pivdennyi and the village. Vyzyrka, where a total of 45,000 people live.
However, the operators mentioned the systematic sabotage of the Grain Initiative by the Russians and clarified that since April 29, not a single ship in the port was included in the inspection of the JCC in Istanbul.
The actions have a critical impact on the volume of exports of Ukrainian products (cereals, sunflower oil and meal) and prevent Ukraine from fulfilling its obligations to the UN and Turkey regarding the joint provision of food security in the world, the stevedores emphasized.
Russia’s deliberate ignoring of the Southern port means the actual blocking of 50% of Ukrainian exports. There are 26 ships waiting in line for the Port of South, and the costs of the forced layoff of the fleet already exceed $50 million.
Sabotage on the part of the Russian Federation automatically affects future contracts with traders – currently they do not conclude them and will not conclude them until the moment of transparent understanding of the effectiveness of the work of the Black Sea Grain Initiative. Therefore, Ukraine actually does not fulfill half of the obligations it undertook before the UN and Turkey.
Meanwhile, Russia exports its grain freely and without any inspections, removing Ukraine from the economic map of food suppliers to world markets.
The companies asked the President to immediately intervene in the situation, because the fact of sabotage of inspections by the Russians may not be obvious to international partners. The operators clarified that they are ready to participate in any format of negotiations and provide all the necessary information.
