Due to the blockade of the ports of Great Odesa, agricultural exports may be reduced by more than half

Due to the prolonged restrictions on the operation of the ports of Great Odesa, the export of Ukrainian agricultural products in the 2026/2027 marketing year may decrease from 64.4 million tons to 29.6 million tons.

This was reported by the Ministry of Agrarian Policy.

The ministry noted that due to Russian attacks on ports, thousands of agricultural producers cannot sell their products and receive working capital.

The greatest risks concern wheat: its exports may decrease from 17.6 million tons to 8.3 million tons.

If sea exports do not resume, effective storage capacities may be filled as early as October. By November, more than 9 million tons of grain, oilseeds and meal may be left without the necessary storage capacities.

Against this background, Ukraine has appealed to the European Commission with a request to allocate €220 million in non-repayable support to compensate for interest on loans to farmers within the framework of the “5-7-9%” program.

It is expected that this will allow the formation of a loan portfolio of up to €4 billion to finance the working capital of small and medium-sized agricultural producers.
