Egyptian trader: Ukrainian wheat often does not meet the declared quality

Ukrainian grain is increasingly causing problems for Egyptian buyers due to the discrepancy between the declared characteristics and the actual quality.

This was stated by Sprint Trading CEO Ahmed Amin during the Grain Ukraine 2025 conference, Elevatorist reports.

According to Ahmed Amin, trading in Ukrainian wheat now requires more effort, time and control than working with grain of other origin. The main reason is the discrepancy between the documents and the actual quality indicators when unloading in Egypt.

For example, the documents may indicate that wheat has 11.5% protein, but in practice it turns out that in one hold the grain is good, in another – bad, “and in the third – dust in general,” Amin said.

He explained that grain in Egypt undergoes final testing directly at the mill. If the quality does not meet the requirements, the batch can be rejected, and all losses are borne by the trader. Buyers expect clear quality control of each batch. Every truck is a potential problem, the businessman emphasized.

In addition, Amin noted that in the event of claims, some Ukrainian exporters simply disappear from communication, which not only complicates logistics, but also harms the reputation of Ukrainian grain on the international market.

Earlier, USM reported that a Thai buyer refused a batch of Ukrainian wheat at the tender.
